I swear I didn’t mean to be lazy, but this morning’s nature hike turned into more of a “nature drive”. I did do a little walking, at about 5am this morning, I was at the upper picnic area in Garden Canyon. Unfortunately, there wasn’t really anything interesting up there, so I started driving back down.
It turns out that pretty much all the pictures I took were from that camera mount, while sitting in my car’s driver’s seat. 🙂
On the way down out of Garden Canyon, the first interesting thing I saw was this hawk flying pretty much right in front of me, before landing on in the field about a 200 feet away. Not the greatest picture, but I can add this one to my “seen it” list.
Right after the hawk, this little sparrow was sitting on a rock near the side of the road. There’s nothing terrible special about the bird, but I really like the way the picture came out.
A little ways further up the road, I saw a Vermilion Flycatcher, and I can never resist taking a picture of him.
As I got to the bottom of the road leading to Garden Canyon, things got a bit more interesting. I was hoping to run into one of these guys …
After the Pronghorn, I made a quick stop at the little lodging pond, but nothing interesting was happening there, so I headed over to Huachuca Canyon.
On the way driving in, I took a couple of pictures of birds ..
Keeping with the theme of the day, I really didn’t see much while I was walking around. But since I’d had such good luck so far in my car, I again drove slow with the camera gorillapod mounted to my window. Not too far up the road, I got two really nice bird pictures. A flycatcher, and a Western Tanager. Funny thing about that tanager, for about 10 days I could not get a decent picture of one, but ever since I finally did capture a good shot, now they just sit right in front of me.
Then just as I was getting ready to pull out of the parking lot and head home, I heard some rustling of leaves down in the little ditch on the other side of the parking lot. Slowly drove over and discovered a family of Javalina.
That was another animal that I’d hoped to photograph when I left my house at 4:50am. All in all, this was a productive morning of picture taking. 🙂
Til next time,
